relearning how to walk

It was hard for me to roll at the beginning. This exercise can be done outside or indoors, wherever there is room. If there is not enough space, you may roll left and then right so you can complete one roll and then roll to the other side. You do control the way you roll with your legs, which in a way you are your steering wheel.

LAYING ON YOUR BACK TO ROLL

  1. Lift the leg that is opposite from the way you want to roll, so if you want to roll to your left, lift your right leg.
  2. With your right leg, cross your left leg, overreaching your left leg and down to the ground. At the same time, turn your torso to turn in that direction. 3. Use your leg weight to assist in turning, especially in the beginning until your muscles are strong enough and only momentum is used.

LAYING ON YOUR STOMACH TO ROLL

  1. Lift the leg that is opposite from the way you want to roll, so if you want to roll to your left, lift your right leg.
  2. With your right leg, cross your left leg, overreaching your left leg and down to the ground. At the same time, turn your back to turn in that direction. Both positions are identical in movement. You are developing strength in the torso as well as learning how to use your body weight to your advantage. Do not be alarmed if this does not work right away and you just lift your leg but do not turn over. It took me a while before it began working; it is about learning the proper timing.
